The Oldfield School Advisory Council (OSAC)
was conceived as a result of policy mandated by the Halifax Regional
School Board. The role of the OSAC is to assist and advise the school
board as well as the principal and staff in policies and procedures that
promote academic excellence and a positive learning environment.
Oldfield School Advisory Council membership includes the principal of
Oldfield Consolidated School, individuals from the community, support
staff, parents and teachers.
One important responsibility of the group is overseeing the
implementation of the "School Improvement Plan" - a plan
consisting of a number of strategic areas specifically designed to meet
the needs of children at Oldfield Consolidated School. The OSAC also
advises the principal and staff on school level issues such as policy
development, programs and curriculum, communication and extra-curricular
activities. The OSAC may also be consulted by the school board for
direction on policy development, funding, student support services,
programs and curriculum, communication strategies and other issues aimed
at improving the education environment overall.
We welcome individuals who are interested in becoming involved or
learning more about this group to attend any monthly meeting. If you
have any questions, comments or concerns about issues related to our
children and their education and learning environment, please contact
the Oldfield School Office (883-3010).
Our new Oldfield School Advisory Council (OSAC) was created on April
1, 1998. It is an exciting development in the history of bringing
elected parents, community members and staff together to discuss ways of
improving Oldfield Consolidated School. The SAC operates under the
guidelines of both the Nova Scotia Department of Education and the
Halifax Regional School Board.
